Chris Leggett joins Chargers Basketball Staff as Assistant Coach
The Columbia State Chargers are excited to announce the hiring of Chris Leggett as the new Assistant Coach for both the men's and women's basketball teams. A Mississippi native, Leggett brings a wealth of experience and a passion for player development to the program.
Leggett most recently served as the Men's Assistant Basketball Coach at Fort Valley State University, where he focused on player development and basketball operations from May 2022 until recently. Prior to that, he was an Assistant Coach at Rust College in Mississippi from 2020 to 2022. His coaching journey began after a successful playing career, which included four years as a varsity letterman at Meridian High School, two years at Wallace State Community College during their historic undefeated season, and time at Troy University and Martin Methodist in Pulaski, TN, where the team ranked in the top 3 nationally. Leggett also played professionally in the ABA and WBA.
"I am thrilled to be a part of the basketball program here at Columbia State," Leggett said. "I look forward to working with the great staff and winning some games, while developing outstanding student-athletes and helping them on their journey to the next level."
Athletic Director Katie Willingham expressed enthusiasm about the new addition to the staff, stating, "We are lucky to have Chris on staff for our men's and women's basketball teams. He brings new insight, great energy, and an eagerness for player development. He's diving into the season headfirst and is ready to contribute to our basketball operations and scouting. I am looking forward to seeing his impact on our student-athletes."
Leggett's commitment to fostering a positive and competitive environment will be instrumental as the Chargers gear up for the upcoming season.
