Chargers Basketball Opens Season with Thrilling Wins at Kiwanis Classic
The Columbia State Chargers kicked off their season in style at the Kiwanis Classic held at Vincennes University, achieving a remarkable start with two hard-fought victories over the weekend. Vincennes has hosted the Kiwanis Classic for 63 years and the Trailblazers have an outstanding 112-13 record over those years. The Chargers are responsible for two of those 13 losses over the last five years.
On Friday, November 1, the Chargers faced off against the Olney Central Knights in a nail-biter, securing a 93-90 win. Thaddeus Johnson and Kenneth Ellis led the charge, each scoring 16 points, with Johnson adding 6 assists and 7 rebounds, while Ellis contributed 4 assists and 4 rebounds. Jamison Glass also made his mark with 13 points and 8 rebounds, and Simeon Williams chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds.
The following day, Saturday, November 2, the Chargers continued their winning streak against the preseason #18 ranked Vincennes University, coming away with an 80-68 victory. Thaddeus Johnson was a standout performer once again, scoring 21 points and grabbing 4 rebounds. Kenneth Ellis added 12 points along with 4 steals and 3 assists, while Taveon Comage contributed 11 points, 3 steals, and 4 rebounds. Jamison Glass rounded out the top scorers with 10 points and 7 rebounds.
