Chargers Fall to Walters State, Look to Bounce Back Saturday
The Columbia State Lady Chargers and Chargers basketball teams faced tough losses on Wednesday against Walters State.
The Lady Chargers fell 72-41 to the Lady Senators after struggling offensively in the first two quarters, managing just 16 points in the first half. Sophomore Ansley Burleson led the team with 13 points and 4 rebounds, while Jacie Scott added 9 points and 4 rebounds. Lily Melton made a strong impact with 7 points and a team-high 9 rebounds, and Queen Benjamin contributed 6 points. The Lady Chargers are now 8-8 overall and 7-3 in TCCAA play, holding second place in the conference standings.
In a defensive battle, the Chargers lost 56-46 to the Senators in a low-scoring contest. Thaddeus Johnson led the Chargers with 12 points, while Arnez Anderson added 8 points. Sophomore Mahki Wright contributed 6 points and 7 rebounds for the team.
Both teams will look to rebound on Saturday, January 25, when they host Motlow State at Webster Gym. The Lady Chargers tip off at 2 p.m., followed by the Chargers at 4 p.m.
