Lady Chargers Split Opening TCCAA Doubleheader Against Lady Cougars
The Lady Chargers kicked off TCCAA play with a weekend series against the Cleveland State Lady Cougars at Eddie Campbell Field, splitting the doubleheader with a loss in game one and a decisive victory in game two.
In the opener, the Lady Chargers fell 17-6 despite some standout individual performances. Jaelyn Luke and Abigail Brown each went 2-for-4, with Brown crossing the plate once. Bella Birdson made a powerful impact, going 1-for-3 with a grand slam, driving in four runs. Jaylee Warren and Jaides Parrish contributed the team's other hits. Christina Juarez took the loss in the circle, pitching 5 innings and allowing 5 hits and 9 unearned runs while striking out one.
The Lady Chargers bounced back in game two, securing a 9-1 win. Jayla Davenport and Samantha Staggs both went 2-for-4, with Staggs adding a double and a run scored. Jaylee Warren had a perfect game at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs, and two runs scored. Contributions also came from Mycah Price (double), Jaides Parrish, Reagan Burleson, and Chloe West, each adding a hit. Staggs dominated in the circle, pitching 6 innings, allowing just one hit and one earned run, and racking up 10 strikeouts.
The Lady Chargers will continue their TCCAA campaign tomorrow as they host the Roane State Lady Raiders for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
