Chargers Face Tough Competition in Weekend Series at Chipola
The Columbia State Chargers baseball team hit the road for a challenging weekend at Chipola College, facing Southern Union State Community College and the host team, Chipola. Despite battling hard, the Chargers came up short in all four matchups.
On Friday, the Chargers fell 6-1 to Southern Union, managing just three hits from Clint Seymore, Cade Hitson, and Russ Lambert. Seymore provided the team's lone run with a solo home run. Sophomore Brayden Kercado took the loss on the mound, pitching three innings and allowing three earned runs on three hits.
Saturday saw a rematch with Southern Union, resulting in an 8-2 loss. The Chargers again struggled offensively, recording three hits from Seymore, Hutson Miles, and Hitson. Hitson and John Carter each drove in a run. Sophomore Owen Wilson pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs while striking out four.
Later that day, Columbia State took on Chipola College, falling 7-3. Dylan Alonso took the loss, allowing three earned runs in two innings. Cade Hitson had a strong performance at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs, including a double and a home run. Additional hits came from Seymore, Jackson Riedling, Brady Hendrix, and Tyler Jenkins.
In Sunday's rematch with Chipola, the Chargers were shut out 3-0 despite recording five hits from Miles, Seymore, Hitson, Carter, and Anthony Pastrana. Braden Gover took the loss, giving up two earned runs in two innings of work.
