Chargers Drop Two of Three in Series at Dave Hall Field
The Chargers baseball team hosted the Cleveland State Cougars in a three-game series at Dave Hall Field, ultimately dropping two contests out of three.
Game One – Extra-Innings Heartbreaker
On Saturday, the Chargers fell 4-2 in extra innings. Jay Watson took the loss in relief, pitching 2 innings and allowing 2 runs (both unearned) with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Starter Jake Cardin went 6 innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 earned runs. Offensively, the team managed just five hits, with Jackson Riedling contributing the lone RBI.
Game Two – Shutout Victory
Later on Saturday, the Chargers bounced back with a 6-0 win. Hutson Miles went 2-for-3 at the plate, and Riedling added an RBI on his 1-for-2 performance. Contributions also came from Cade Hitson (1-for-2, 2 walks), Clint Seymore (1-for-2 with 2 RBIs), Michael McClellan (1-for-2 with 2 RBIs and 2 walks), Anthony Pastrana (1-for-1), and Russ Lambert (RBI). On the mound, Dylan Alonso earned the win with 4 innings pitched, allowing 1 hit, 3 walks, and racking up 9 strikeouts, while Anthony Serrano secured the save with 3 innings of work.
Game Three – Sunday Setback
The final game on Sunday ended in a 7-4 loss. Offensively, Miles went 2-for-5 with an RBI, Seymore recorded 2-for-3, Riedling went 1-for-4 with an RBI, and Pastrana contributed a double, an RBI, and 2 walks. Owen Wilson took the loss, giving up 7 hits and 6 runs (all earned) in 5 innings of work.
